HIGH RATE OF BLEEDING AND ARTERIAL THROMBOSIS IN COVID-19: SAUDI MULTICENTER STUDY

A Saudi multicenter retrospective study to assess the rate of arterial and venous thrombosis in COVID-19 patients included 636 hospitalized patients found the rate of overall thrombosis to be 2.99% in general. The rate was lower in the non-ICU group (0.94%) compared to 13.2% in the ICU group.
Elevated bases D-dimer was found to be the only risk factor predicted thrombosis events. The study concluded that the rate of venous thrombosis was not significantly higher than hospitalized non-COVID-19 patients, and the therapeutic (versus prophylactic) doses of anticoagulants were associated with higher rate of bleeding.
